The Alliance of Seniors’ Centres is a coalition of independent Vancouver seniors’ centres working together to provide a unified voice on issues and opportunities affecting seniors’ centres and older adults. Through collaboration, advocacy, and shared initiatives, the Alliance strengthens the sustainability, visibility, and impact of seniors’ centres across Vancouver.

Seniors’ Centres Explained

Independent seniors’ centres are welcoming, vibrant community spaces dedicated to older adults (age 55+). They provide opportunities for members to build relationships, strengthen social connections, share their expertise, serve as leaders in their communities, and find support to maintain independence, health, and wellbeing.

While community centres serve people of all ages, seniors’ centres provide a dedicated environment where older adults are at the heart of the experience—places that foster connection, purpose, and belonging.

Experience our Community Spaces

At seniors’ centres, opportunities to participate in physical activities, express creativity, engage in lifelong learning, discover new passions, and foster deep roots in community are abundant. Most seniors’ centres are also powered by volunteers, who work alongside staff to shape and deliver programs, activities, services, and community initiatives. Through volunteering, leadership, and participation, older adults find meaning, purpose, and a strong sense of belonging while making valuable contributions to their communities.

Discover What’s Here for You

Seniors’ centres provide a range of services and supports that help older adults remain in their own homes for as long as possible. In addition to these direct supports, seniors’ centres are important information hubs that connect older adults to resources and services in their neighbourhoods and communities. They also often lead and participate in community engagement initiatives that strengthen social connections, promote inclusion, and enrich the lives of older adults.

“Through volunteering, leadership, and participation, older adults find meaning, purpose, and a strong sense of belonging while making valuable contributions to their communities.”
